Courtroom Conduct

The San Francisco Superior Court welcomes visitors to our court facilities and courtrooms. When you are visiting our courtrooms, please follow these rules:

  • Do not eat or drink in any of the courtrooms in any facility.
  • Do not use recording devices or cameras, including cell phone cameras, in any courtroom without express written permission from the sitting judge in that department. More information is available on the court’s Web site, https://newsroom.courts.ca.gov/cameras-courtroom. Never photograph members of the jury under any circumstances.
  • Turn off cell phones and other electronic devices to avoid disruption of proceedings.
  • Do not read newspapers, magazines, or online content from mobile devices while court is in session.
  • Do not leave empty cups or other garbage on the courtroom floor.
  • Do not talk to others during the proceedings.
  • Dress appropriately for the courtroom, i.e., no flip flops, shorts, or offensive t-shirts. Remove your hats and hoods.
  • Enter and exit the courtrooms quietly.
  • Keep voices down immediately outside courtrooms and in the corridors to avoid disrupting ongoing proceedings and testimony.
