The Justice & Diversity Center’s (JDC) Community Organization Representation Project (CORP) recently partnered with attorneys from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and Dolby Laboratories, Inc. to hold a free legal clinic for six Bay Area nonprofits. The clinic provided legal health assessments for each nonprofit to help identify any legal issues that may require attention.
The nonprofits served by the clinic provide a wide array of services for low-income and underserved populations, from comprehensive case management for individuals re-entering society, and counseling for survivors of sexual assault, to scholarships and support for first-generation college students. These organizations also have an outsized collective impact on their communities—with just over 90 employees and an average budget of $1.5 million, they manage to serve over 10,000 Bay Area residents each year collectively.
Thanks to the support of attorneys from Wilson Sonsini and Dolby Laboratories, the participating nonprofits left the clinic with a clearer understanding of their legal health as well as a plan for addressing their legal issues. Many thanks to all the volunteers who gave their time, and a special thank you to Wilson Sonsini for hosting the event.
