The theme of this year’s Barristers Annual Meeting, “Crafting a Path to Success,” can be an elusive concept. Many of us struggle mightily to define what success means in our practice, or how to craft a path forward that will set us up to achieve our professional goals.
What are some simple ways we can start to answer those questions?
Here are a few things to consider—which also happen to be great reasons to attend this year’s Annual Meeting:
- Listen to the stories of others. One of the reasons the concept of success can seem so foreign is that the divide between where we are now and where we want to be appears massive. How did that person that we admire achieve partner, get that client, become a judge, or get elected to the House of Representatives? It turns out that if we invest in listening to and studying the trajectories of success people, the steps we need to take to achieve our goals become much less daunting.
The Annual Meeting provides an excellent forum for attendees to listen to the stories and advice of successful attorneys, to both bridge this mental gap and formulate new ideas.
- Surround yourself with the right people. The business philosopher Jim Rohn famously said that we’re the average of the five people we spend the most time with. Applying that sentiment more broadly, the Annual Meeting is an excellent opportunity to meet and connect with similarly motivated attorneys who are interested, like you, in learning how to craft their own path to professional success. The benefits that come from a day’s worth of networking with other attendees are many.
- Become educated on opportunities. The more action we take, the more empowered we become. This year’s meeting includes presenters and speakers from diverse backgrounds and experiences, who chose lots of different paths to success. Educate yourself on the opportunities available to you by listening to not only the material they present, but the stories they have behind the material. Opportunities for professional growth are everywhere–and our goal in organizing the meeting is to provide you with the tools and the connections to find and explore those opportunities.
We look forward to seeing you there!
