The first Sunday in June marked the fourth time that the JDC/BASF Street Team participated in San Francisco’s Sunday Streets. Inspired by the Ciclovía in Bogotá, Colombia, Sunday Streets is a series of free, fun events empowering local communities to transform miles of car-congested streets into car-free community spaces for kids to play, seniors to stroll, organizations to connect and neighbors to meet. Inspired by the enthusiasm of JDC’s Development team, both BASF and JDC staff members have joined the fun and staffed the booth on various weekends, from the Mission to Golden Gate Park.
The team, led by Development Coordinator Kristine Pederson, was once again on-hand on June 3, to put a face to JDC/BASF legal services programs and answer questions ranging from eviction issues to immigration assistance.
Joining Pederson at the Sunday Streets Golden Gate Park / Sunset District edition were Jay Lee, JDC’s Pro Bono Manager and Supervising Attorney of the Community Organization Representation Project (CORP), BASF/JDC’s Carole Conn, Director of Public Service Programs, and Samantha Akwei, JDC’s Director of Diversity Pipeline Programs, with logistics provided by Tyler Morris, Owner at Underdog Couriers.
Sunday Streets attracts thousands of San Franciscans, who take over a stretch of San Francisco’s most lively neighborhoods, to ride, walk, roll and connect with neighbors. JDC/BASF is proud to be part of the community and bring information about legal services directly to those who may need them.
Join us at the next Sunday Streets on August 19 from 11 to 4. The location is still listed as a “Mystery Route” on the Sunday Streets website. Stay tuned for updates – We will keep you posted and hope to see you there. Stop by our booth and say hi!
