On behalf of the families, youth and community we serve, we at the Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) of the Bar Association of San Francisco thank you. Your gift to JDC makes it possible for us to grow access to justice, fairness, and equality in our communities.
Can we count on your support?
Let me share a few highlights with you:
Pro Bono Legal Services
Last year, more than 1,300 volunteers provided pro bono legal services to over 8,500 local residents through JDC. We could not have done it without your support. JDC’s services provide a vital safety net and play an integral role in San Francisco’s city-wide efforts to prevent housing displacement, homelessness, family flight, and neighborhood instability.
How you can help:
- Your gift of $1,500 helps ensures legal representation to facilitate the guardianship of an infant and social support services for the family.
- Your gift of $50 trains an attorney to assist underserved clients who have been sued by creditors.
Homeless Advocacy Project
JDC’s Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP) provides free legal and related social services to individuals and families who are homeless or at serious risk of becoming homeless. HAP is a pioneer in providing holistic legal services that include social support services. HAP serves 2,000 people each year and 75% of clients have mental or physical disabilities.
How you can help:
- Your gift of $2,000 provides a family with an attorney to defend them against eviction.
- Your gift of $250 allows a social service advocate to help homeless individuals and families search for stable housing.
Immigrant Legal Defense Program
In response to the needs of our community’s vulnerable immigrants, JDC has significantly increased its immigration services and become a partner to rapid response networks that connect the services of more than 25 nonprofit organizations, from Bakersfield to the Oregon border.
How you can help:
- Your gift of $1,000 provides an immigrant detained by ICE with an Attorney of the Day to fight for their due process rights and prevent deportation.
- Your gift of $500 provides transportation for a team of attorneys to visit remote immigration detention facilities and provide screenings and legal assistance to unrepresented individuals.
Diversity Educational Program
Last year, we helped over 600 students through our Diversity Pipeline Program that serves students from high school to law school. Recipients of our scholarship program have gone on to become judges, general counsel, and nonprofit leaders. Together, and with your support, we can truly change the future of the profession.
How you can help:
- Your gift of $500 ten weeks of educational enrichment and college counseling to high school students who will be first in their families to attend college.
- Your gift of $150 provides transportation for high school students in the Mock Trial Program to competitions across the state.
