The State Bar of California recently recognized two BASF members with its President’s Pro Bono Service Awards, Ciarán O’Sullivan, The Law Office of Ciarán O’Sullivan and Charles Crompton, the Glide Economic Development Corporation; and one member with its Jack Berman Award of Achievement for Distinguished Service to the Profession and the Public, Aaron Fischer of Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld.

Created by the State Bar Board of Trustees in 1983, the awards recognize California attorneys, law firms, associations of California attorneys, law schools and law students who have provided or enabled the direct provision of legal services to low-income clients or to nonprofit organizations whose primary purpose is to provide services to the poor or disadvantaged, free of charge, without expectation of compensation.

The Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) nominated O’Sullivan for his long-standing commitment to pro bono service. He has volunteered for JDC’s Eviction Defense Project and Federal Pro Bono Project since 2010, representing low-income tenants facing eviction proceedings and in pro per litigants in federal court.

O’Sullivan also generously volunteers his time and advice to other JDC volunteer lawyers who are involved in cases in which family members are evicting other family members.

The awards were presented at the state bar’s Annual Meeting in September.
