Shronda Allen was a student at Alameda City College when she attended a Destination Law School (DLS) panel presentation last fall. While there, she met JDC’s Director of Diversity Pipeline Programs, Elizabeth McGriff, and expressed her interest in a legal career.
McGriff spoke to Allen about Mills College, her alma mater, and a few months later, let her know that she transferred to Mills College and will graduate in 2017.
Allen has received one-on-one counseling about applying to law school and plans to apply after earning her undergraduate degree.
Here is what she had to say about how the DLS program has helped her:
“As a first generation college student and single parent my dream of becoming a corporate law attorney seemed beyond my reach until recently. Through my involvement with the Destination to Law School program and the encouragement I received from Elizabeth McGriff I now feel confident enough to chase my aspirations. Obtaining a law degree would not only be a huge accomplishment for me personally, but it will open doors of opportunity for my entire family.”
