JDC Pro Bono Legal Services attorneys Cary Gold and Eunice Chang recently saved a family of four from eviction.
After a 20-year tenancy, the father, mother and their two children nearly lost the only place they called home.
The children’s aunt acted as caretaker and despite the history with the family, the landlord claimed the tenants breached occupancy limits under the lease which stated only three people could live there.
The parents worked long hours and needed the aunt/caretaker to take their son to soccer practices and games
The jury found that the caretaker aunt was not subletting but merely a visitor.
