A prison left ‘Mr. S’ in debilitating pain for weeks after another inmate attacked him. Despite having four fractured ribs, Mr. S received no medical attention for over three weeks, during which time he was unable to walk, sleep, eat, or use the rest room.
Mr. S was able to enforce his civil rights and settled a case against the prison for $19,000, thanks to Barg Coffin Lewis & Trapp attorney Julia Graeser and managing partner Morgan Gilhuly. Julia and Morgan obtained an amount much more substantial than Mr. S would have received without representation.
JDC is grateful to Julia, Morgan, and the support staff of Barg Coffin for taking on this pro bono case and helping to achieve justice for Mr. S. To find out more about volunteering with JDC’s Federal Pro Bono Project, please contact Pro Bono Manager Jay Lee at jlee@sfbar.org
