Attorneys Nancy Barron and Bryan Kemnitzer of Kemnitzer, Barron & Krieg, directed a $110,000 cy pres award to the Justice & Diversity Center’s (JDC) Consumer Project in March.
The award stems from a class action lawsuit brought under California’s Rees-Levering Automobile Sales Finance Act, which governs automobile conditional sale contracts in California. The class consisted of almost 17,000 consumers whose vehicles were financed by the same financial services corporation.
The settlement, which ended five years of litigation, provided for residual class funds to be distributed to five different nonprofit legal aid organizations, including JDC.
JDC appreciates any opportunity to talk with trial attorneys who are seeking qualified programs for class action residual funds.
