On April 10, the Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) celebrated its top volunteers at the annual Outstanding Volunteer Celebration.

With around 200 guests in attendance at the event, held in the Green Room at the War Memorial & Performing Arts Center, Chief Justice of California Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye recognized awardees’ service to JDC’s Pro Bono Legal Services Program, Homeless Advocacy Project, Immigrant Legal Defense Program, and Diversity Educational Programs.

JDC honored the top 15 percent of its individual volunteers in 2017 and also presented special awards to recognize two individual volunteers, a law firm, a corporation, and a design/engineering firm.

“JDC is thrilled to recognize all our guests who partnered with us to provide access to justice, and to a more diverse legal profession. We’re also deeply grateful and honored to have the Courts join us in expressing gratitude for public service”, said Gloria Chun, Director and Managing Attorney of JDC’s Pro Bono Legal Services Program.

Jessica Y. Alexandra received the 2017 Housing Justice Award for her dedication to fairness for low-income tenants facing eviction.

JDC presented Jennifer K. Letulle with the James P. Preovolos Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Services in Family Law.

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius received the Outstanding Law Firm in Public Service Award for exceptional pro bono support of a number of JDC Legal Services and Diversity programs.

JDC recognized Bank of America with the Outstanding Corporation Award for its legal department’s commitment to pro bono service.

Arup, a firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists, received JDC’s Community Service Award for its pro bono work setting up the Homeless Advocacy Project’s much-needed HVAC system.
