On March 1, the Justice & Diversity Center’s (JDC) Legal Services Program held a free legal clinic for survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault as part of One Billion Rising, a global movement calling for an end to violence against women and girls.
JDC collaborated on the clinic with the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and San Francisco Department on the Status of Women. The theme for One Billion Rising this year was “One Billion Rising for Justice,” and at the clinic, attorneys helped survivors with issues such as restraining orders, custody, child support, immigration and housing.
JDC thanks the 39 volunteers who staffed the clinic, including law students from UC Hastings, a representative from the San Francisco Department of Child Support Services, volunteer attorneys, and attorneys from Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, Bay Area Legal Aid, Catholic Charities CYO, Cooperative Restraining Order Clinic and Employment Law Center.
