More than 80 people attended the Open Doors 1L Job Shadow Program thank you reception at Schiff Hardin.

The reception was held to thank the more than 30 host employers and 34 1L student participants from University of San Francisco School of Law, UC Hastings College of the Law and Golden Gate University School of Law. The job shadow program took place March 7- 9 during the students’ Spring Break.

The program included inspirational remarks from Schiff Hardin Partner and BASF Board Member John Worden; USF School of Law Dean John Trasviña; Golden Gate University School of Law Dean Rachel Van Cleave; and UC Hastings College of the Law’s Sari Zimmerman

Established in 2015 as a partnership between BASF and the USF School of Law, the Open Doors 1L Job Shadow Program is the brain child of McDermott Will & Emery Partner A. Marisa Chun. Due to the outstanding success of the program, it expanded in 2016 to include Hastings and GGU School of Law.

The program aims to open doors of opportunity for diverse law students by jump starting their professional development through early, day-to-day immersion in dynamic legal organizations. It is designed for students who have limited exposure to professional legal settings. Last Spring, 17 employers from the private, public, corporate and nonprofit sectors welcomed 20 first-year USF law students. In 2016, the number of student participants increased from 17 to 34 and the number of employers increased from 17 to 32.
