Charlene “Chuck” Shimada, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and Angel Garganta, Venable, were both recently elected to the American Law Institute (ALI), a leading independent organization that produces critical scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and improve the law, including preparation of Restatements of the Law.
Holland & Knight Partner Joins Public Utility Counsel’s Board
The Conference of California Public Utility Counsel (CCPUC) has selected Holland & Knight partner Tara Kaushik as the newest member of its board of directors.
CCPUC is the specialty bar association of attorneys and regulatory personnel who practice in the areas of energy, telecommunications, transportation and water regulation before the California Public Utilities Commission.
Equal Justice Works Names Jonathan Selbin to Board
Jonathan Selbin, Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, was recently named to the board of directors of Equal Justice Works. EJW is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a just society by mobilizing the next generation of lawyers committed to equal justice.
Asian American Bar Association Installs 2018 Board
David Tsai, Vinson & Elkins, was recently installed as the President of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area. Charles Jung, Nassiri & Jung, was named Vice President/President-Elect; Barristers Club President-Elect John Hamasaki, Hamasaki Law, was named Treasurer; and Michelle Park Chiu, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius was named Secretary.

Orrick Named Most Innovative Law Firm
Financial Times recently named BASF Leader Circle Firm Orrick “North America’s Most Innovative Law Firm” in its 2017 report. The firm was recognized for eight different innovations.
In addition, FT selected BASF member John Bautista as one of the “10 Most Innovative Individuals of the Year,” calling him “one of the most influential lawyers in the technology ecosystem of Silicon Valley.”
Member Re-Elected as Vice Mayor
BASF Member Shawn Christianson of Buchalter Nemer, was recently re-elected to serve as Vice-Mayor of Hillsborough, a Bay Area city of approximately 11,500 residents.
