Eight members of The Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) were honored with awards for their dedication to the organization in 2017.
The following members were honored with Awards of Merit:
BASF’s Paralegal Section Chair Victoria NewmanRP and Education Chair Dennis Hanshew, Blacker, Sammis & Blacker, were recognized for their dedication to the success of the Paralegal Section.
Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) volunteer Jim Leigh, a retired attorney, was recognized for his volunteer work with JDC’s Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP) over the past two years.
Alicia Gámez, Gámez Law, is a member of BASF’s Immigration Task Force and a member of BASF’s Delegation to the Conference of California Bar Associations. In both of these roles, she provided extraordinary service to educate attorneys on family preparedness for immigrants and multi-national families, and propose legislation that will directly impact individuals and families in the immigrant community.
Past BASF President Kelly Dermody, Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein, was recognized for her efforts in 2017 when she coordinated with BASF and JDC to organize the all-day Good Ally Conference. The conference brought together more than 1,300 legal professionals, community leaders, and nonprofits in response to anticipated changes with the new administration.
The following members were recognized with Outstanding Barristers Awards:
Lindsey Mignano, Smith Shapourian Mignano, has served the Barristers Club in numerous leadership roles since joining BASF in 2014. She has served on the Barristers Litigation Section Executive Committee as the Continuing Legal Education Vice Chair. Last year she took on an additional role in the Barristers Club as Co-Chair of the Solo and Small Firm Executive Committee.
Shuting “Ting” Chen, Law Offices of Shuting Chen, is the Co-Chair of the Barristers Immigration Law Section and in this role has organized a number of CLE programs and immigrant rights events for the Barristers Club and JDC.
Audrey Siegel, Cartwright Law, is the Co-Chair of the Barristers Litigation Section. She represents and promotes the section’s goals of fostering a professional network for younger litigators, and hosting programs that provide opportunities for professional development on topics of interest to its members.
The awards were presented at The Bar Association of San Francisco’s Annual Membership Luncheon and Installation of Officers on December 14, 2017.
