Farella Braun + Martel Partner Stephanie P. Skaff was installed in December as BASF’s 101st president at the Annual Membership Luncheon. It was there that she announced her “It Starts With a Day” 2014 volunteer initiative.
The goal of the initiative is to make it easy for members to engage with BASF, the community and each other during five “It Starts With a Day” volunteer events scheduled throughout 2014.
The first one takes place on January 25 at the Justice & Diversity Center’s Bayview-Hunter’s Point Legal Advice and Referral Clinic (LARC). (Editor’s note: The first service day on January 25 is full – thank you to all the volunteers who have signed up! If you are interested in volunteering, please check out other upcoming service days at www.sfbar.org/itstartswithaday.) The second event will coincide with Law Day on May 1 where volunteers will teach in nine San Francisco high schools.
Skaff also announced another focus of her presidency – addressing the needs of San Francisco veterans. She talked about BASF’s new program of legal services for veterans called “Service 4 Service.” In addition to an “It Starts With a Day” event focused on veterans, BASF will also partner with the San Francisco Superior Court’s Veterans Court, the Veterans Administration, legal service providers and community partners to sponsor a half-day summit this month to discuss solutions for legal problems facing our returning service members.
