Professional obligations and the rigors of law school have not stopped BASF members and the Justice & Diversity Center’s Bay Area Minority Law Student scholarship recipients from giving back to the Destination Law School (DLS) Program.

Recently, DLS lead a tour of UC Berkeley School of Law and UC Hastings College of the Law. Students in the DLS program had the opportunity to sit in on 1L classes; tour the campuses; and attend information sessions.

During that time DLS students had an opportunity to meet and chat with 1L scholarship recipients Christina Fletes and Guadalupe Aguirre. Christina and Guadalupe talked to students about their time at Berkeley, the law school application process and their undergraduate experiences.

DLS also held a panel presentation at the University of San Francisco where diverse BASF members and scholarship recipients spoke with students about their undergraduate, law school and professional experiences. Panelists included: JDC Board Member Danielle Ochs, Ogletree, Deakins; Marie Ma, Gap Inc.; Shannon Dilley, Hankerson Law Group; and Bay Area Minority Law Student Scholarship Recipients Chris Ballard and Edelmira Diaz.

Several BASF members have taken the time to participate in the DLS mentorship program and we appreciate them. Mentors include: Danielle Ochs, Ogletree, Deakins; Shannon Dilley, Hankerson Law Group; Curtis Howard, The Law Office of Curtis Howard; Glicel Sumagaysay, Minami Tamaki LLP; Yumi Nam, Law Offices of Eric L. Lifschitz.

We have four DLS panel presentations scheduled in March 2014 at UC Berkeley, Chabot College, Laney College and Mills College.
