On February 5, 2019, the Bar Association of San Francisco and the Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) hosted a reception to honor Judge Amarra Lee. Judge Lee, appointed to the bench last November, is the first African-American woman to serve on the San Mateo County Superior Court.
Judge Lee is a 2003 recipient of JDC’s Minority Law Student Scholarship Program and she is the first scholarship recipient to become a judge. Her involvement with BASF and JDC continued throughout the years. She served on JDC’s scholarship committee, and continues to volunteer as a panelist in JDC’s Destination Law School and Law Academy programs.
Judge Lee graduated from UC Hastings in 2006 and went on to work for BASF Leader Circle firm Farella Braun + Martel. Since 2012, she served as a deputy district attorney at the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office. Judge Lee also served as guest lecturer for UC Hastings Legal Education Opportunity (LEOP) program and the ABA’s Council for Legal Education Opportunity Program.
