Thank you for being a member of the BASF Art Law Section! We want to share a recap of our most recent event, our plans for the remainder of 2023, and an open application call for new members of the Art Law Section Executive Committee.
SFO Art Walk
June 15th was our Section’s annual symposium. The Art Law Section discussed public art programs, and then toured the public art on display at SFO. We were very fortunate to have with us Marcus Davies, a guide from the SF Public Art Program, who regaled us with the history of the many artworks on display at the airport. A big thank you to him!
If you would like to catch up on our past programs, OnDemand CLE recordings can be found here.
Upcoming Events
Our next event will be our Halloween (online) bash. Join us as we recount the most terrifying Art Law “Horror” Stories known to man! The Art Law Section Executive Committee will be in full costume, and we encourage all attendees to get into the spirit. There will be a costume contest following the CLE presentation with prizes!
Of course, we have not forgotten that the Mickey Mouse cartoon “Steamboat Willie” is sneaking its way into the public domain at the stroke of midnight on Jan. 1, 2024. Learn all about what this means for the world’s most famous mouse at our Micky Mouse and the Public Domain event. The CLE will be a part of our end of year Holiday Party. Please join us at Withersworldwide headquarters for this one-of-a-kind CLE with drinks, food, and mousey merriment!
Now Accepting Applications for a New Executive Committee Member
We are excited to announce that the Art Law Section is now accepting applications for attorneys interested in joining the Executive Committee! The Executive Committee is open to attorneys of all backgrounds; the only requirement is an interest in and commitment to art. Previous attendance to the Art Law Section’s past events and experience with planning educational programs are factors that will be considered in the appointment review.
If you are interested in joining the Section’s leadership, please email us at cle@sfbar.org with a resume and answers to the following four questions:
- Please describe your practice, and any experience with art or art law.
- Please describe the activities you have engaged in with respect to bar associations, other legal organizations or non-profits, and/or the federal and state courts.
- Please describe why you are interested in serving on the Executive Committee.
- List any suggested topics you would like to see the Art Law Section cover in the next few years and/or a possible program you would like to lead.
A member of the Executive Committee must be willing to commit to the following:
- Active membership in BASF and the Art Law Section.
- Attend scheduled Section meetings. Executive Committee members are expected to (1) participate in at least 75% of the Sections monthly virtual meetings, and (2) plan at least one CLE event every year.
