As Summer comes back to the city, we at The Justice & Diversity Center are excited to announce our AT&T Legal Services Fellow for the year of 2024, Emily Pedro.
Emily Pedro is a rising 2L at the University of San Francisco. Emily initially planned a career in social services while completing her undergrad studies at San Jose State but decided to pursue a legal career when she realized that a lot of societal issues can be mitigated through increasing access to legal services. After graduating with Bachelors in Sociology and Justice Studies in 2020, Emily worked at Fragomen and traveled extensively to Oregon, New York, Hawaii, and parts of Mexico. She is currently interested in immigration and juvenile law and intends to work in public interest.
Emily will be splitting her time between the Federal Pro Bono Project and our Community Organization Representation Project (CORP). She will work under the supervision of project heads to research and develop guidance materials for both projects’ volunteer attorneys and clients. In the next two months, Emily will develop a working understanding of nonprofit law relating to California nonprofits and will also be able to see in real time see how civil litigants navigate federal law in the Northern District. On her off days, she will be destressing by journaling and taking advantage of all the amazing hiking trails the Bay Area offers.
We look forward to having Emily on the Pro Bono Legal Services team!
The AT&T Legal Services Summer Fellowship
The purpose of the AT&T Fellowship is to increase services to low-income San Franciscans, create opportunities for law students who would otherwise not be able to take internships, and encourage law students to seek jobs in public interest. We would like to thank AT&T for providing the funds that made this position possible.
