Claudia Viera is a highly-experienced and dedicated full-time mediator, who regularly mediates online in Zoom. Since 2001, Ms. Viera has successfully mediated nearly a thousand tough cases, including all types of harassment and discrimination, wage and hour class actions, wrongful termination, retaliation, breach of contract, defamation, HOA disputes, landlord/tenant and partnership dissolutions.

Viera is tenacious and works actively with both sides to help them achieve a better resolution than either would achieve in court. She encourages true cost benefit analysis of litigation alternatives as she works to orient parties toward settlement. She formerly litigated at Littler Mendelson and then practiced as a plaintiff’s employment attorney, which gives her a keen understanding of the priorities on both sides of the table. She mediates in both English and Spanish.

Viera was selected to mediate for the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, the First and Third District Court of Appeal and the Appellate Mediation Group. She is a frequent lecturer on mediation skills and techniques for the ABA, local bar associations and Bay Area law schools, including U.C. Berkeley and Hastings Law Schools. Her recent talks include Mediating Sex Harassment Cases in the #MeToo Era and Best Practices for Video Conference Mediations.  She teaches a Business Mediation course at UC Berkeley extension, and taught Conflict Resolution/Workplace Mediation at San Francisco State University for 10 years. She also taught Employment Law at Saint Mary’s College.

Viera was the 2016-2017 President of the Board of The Mediation Society of San Francisco, and was the five-term co-chair of the BASF Mediation Committee, and three-term President of the Board of Directors at SEEDS Conflict Resolution Center. She received her J.D. from Berkeley Law School (UC Berkeley, Boalt Hall).

Viera has published a variety of articles on mediation in the employment law arena, including articles on Employment Mediation and Video Conference Mediation:
