Attorneys looking to volunteer with the Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) know that they can send an email to probono@sfbar.org, but may have wondered who is on the other end.
Meet Tyla Jones, our new Volunteer and Clinics Coordinator, who links volunteers to JDC’s pro bono projects and organizes our free Legal Advice and Referral Clinics (LARCs) two Saturdays a month. If you want to make a difference but are unsure about how to do so, she is the person to contact.
Tyla is from the Bay Area and has been living in San Francisco for over a decade. She has strong roots in social justice, education equity, human rights, and social change organizing, primarily through the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). Her experience includes political organizing in places such as India, South America, Central America, Mexico, and Greece. Tyla is on the board of DreamerFund, a group of University of San Francisco law students that provides scholarships for undocumented law students. She also leads a grassroots organization called Join the Movement, which creates spaces for non-profits and activists to raise money for a cause and educate the community about social change and human rights awareness.
Tyla graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in Anthropology and Human Rights, emphasizing in Critical Medical Anthropology, and pursued graduate studies in Anthropology and Social Change Department at CIIS. In what little spare time she has, Tyla is a DJ, dancer, and runs a small baking business that specializes in gluten-free and vegan baked goods.
