Preventing Sexual Harassment and Discrimination: Maintaining a Respectful Workplace
When: March 10, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Where: San Francisco
Presenter: Michael Nader, employment attorney at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati

California law mandates that all employers with 50 or more employees must provide training for all of their supervisors on how to prevent harassment and discrimination in the workplace.  To ensure that you are in compliance with the law, register your organization's supervisors to attend this workshop.  This presentation will provide guidance on how to prevent harassment and discrimination in the workplace, as well as information on how to respond and investigate such complaints.

Modern Media and the Traditional Workplace:  Same Rules, Different Game

When: April 13, 2010, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Where: San Francisco

Presenter: Walter Stella, Partner at Bingham McCutchen, LLP

Modern media has ushered in a rapid and fundamental change in the way people communicate, and their ability to collect and disseminate information—creating unique challenges for HR professionals. “Old” employment laws—and the workplace practices and policies developed to implement them—have not kept up with the “new” media alternatives. This presentation explores the legal issues and challenges posed by modern media and the best workplace practices to address them.

This program will cover a general overview of state and federal wage and hour laws.  In particular, the program will cover overtime requirements, exempt status, meal and rest periods, and proper classification of workers as independent contractors.
